Story

The Harth Continent

In ancient times the Harth Continent was the land of spirits, dragons and giants. A civilisation grew around mechanical technology — and when growth stalled, greed and tyranny took its place. Three powers waged an endless war over the Heart of Harth, a source of immense power at the centre of the continent.

Humanity, unable to endure thousands of years of oppression, united to survive and founded new nations to resist the tyrants: Ontari in the north, Vulpin in the south and Nousgard in the centre. The Heart of Harth became the prize of the war between Ontari and Vulpin, and the long history of their rivalry began.

The Great Cataclysm

Greed brought about the Great Cataclysm. A colossal explosion erupted from the Heart of Harth, countless lives were lost, the continent shattered and its broken pieces rose into the sky.

Only those who escaped aboard the great airship Embryon survived the exodus. Sheltered by the barrier of the sacred tree Sephiroth on their long voyage, they settled a floating island born of the Cataclysm, named it Nousgard and began to rebuild what was lost.

Sephiroth and the exploration teams

Sephiroth protects people by spreading its barrier. Those who pioneered the unknown sky, slew strange monsters and raised a new civilisation came to stand for courage and unbending will — the exploration teams of Nousgard, humanity's last hope.

But as Nousgard settled into peace, dark omens appeared one after another. Nobody knew what they meant …

Your story

You open your eyes in an unfamiliar place. Your past has been carved out of you; only fragments remain, your name among them. Exploration Captain Eve tells you that you were a trainee of her team and lost your memory in a fall during a mission. Aboard the giant airship Inventus you watch Sephiroth take root, meet Captain Lloyd, train for combat, fly a griffin machine — and then Rapine appears, a being you have never seen, with a voice that says:

"Something very important remains in the memories you have lost."

Lapin may be the only one who can tell you who you were.
